Youth of the Year
Competition



The Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeastern Pennsylvania recently held its annual Youth of the Year competition.  The first place winner received a $1,500 scholarship to a higher education institution of their choice; and the runner up received a $500 scholarship to a higher education institution of their choice.  Each participant received a $50 cash prize for their efforts.  Pictured are (l-r) Jalen Parker, runner up; Richard Kasavage, Club director; and Joseph Evans, first-place winner.

 



The Club members were judged on family, school, community and Boys & Girls Club involvement, as well as personal challenges and obstacles overcome.  Representatives from the community volunteered their time to judge the competition.  Pictured are judges (l-r) Elizabeth Balduino, Pennstar Bank; Peter Danchak, PNC Bank; and Bridget Orue, North Penn Bank.

 

 

After the judging, guest speaker Maureen McGuigan, deputy director of arts and culture
Lackawanna County, shared with the group why higher education is a wise choice to make after high school graduation.  At the competition are (l-r) Laura Gentile, Club director of operations; Maureen McGuigan; and Tricia DiBiasi Thomas, Club executive director.
