Boys & Girls Clubs of NEPA Offers Fitness Competitions
…with two programs geared for community youth

SCRANTON - The Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeastern Pennsylvania presents two fitness programs/competitions, which are opportunities for community youth to participate, free of charge, in fitness competitions held at the Clubs’ gymnasium located at 609 Ash Street in Scranton.

The Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA FIT Challenge will take place on October 21, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. where local youngsters will have the opportunity to showcase their excellence in the core basketball skills of shooting, dribbling and passing.  This program is geared for boys and girls ageseight to 14.

NBA FIT / WNBA FIT Dribble, Dish & Swish will take place on November 16, 2009 at 6:00 p.m.  This program seeks to ensure the availability of the program to all young basketball players in this area.  It is also intended to encourage youth participants, and emphasize both fitness elements and basketball competition.  This allows youth to not only compete, but also gain core basketball skills.  This program is geared for boys and girls ages seven to 12.

According to Lloyd Blackwell, director of athletics, “I am very excited to see these two programs go into effect.  We encourage all of our local community youth to participate.  Not only do these programs emphasize physical fitness, but they are also fun.”

Participants may register the day of the event, and must bring a copy of their birth certificate and complete a registration/waiver form prior to the start of the programs.
