Boys & Girls Clubs of NEPA Offers
New Program for Young Girls

SCRANTON - The Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeastern Pennsylvania now offers a brand new program at the Club, exclusively for girls ages 6-18.  Thanks to the generous donation from David & Ann Hawk and Joanne Kuehner, the girls at the Club may now participate in the GALLS Program (Giving All Little Ladies Smiles).

According to Ann Hawk, funder, “My idea for a girls program is to give the girls a time to feel special. When I met the girls, they were very enthusiastic about the program. They told me that they look forward to participating each week. Girls are given so many negative messages in our culture. It is my hope that this program will help the girls to develop the skills they need to be happy and productive in life.”

The purpose of this program is to engage girls in interactive and informative activities where they will learn how to strengthen and build self-esteem.

Throughout the program, the following topics are addressed:

  • Body Image
  • Good Hygiene
  • Healthy Habits (food/exercise)
  • Personal Values/Good Decision Making
  • Social Interaction/Bullying
  • Drugs and Alcohol

A variety of guest speakers will be presented throughout the program.
