Scranton – The back-to-school season is a busy time for students and parents/guardians. To help prepare for the school year, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeastern Pennsylvania proudly presents the Back-to-School Health Fair sponsored by Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania. This event will be held on August 23, 2012 at the central Club located at 609 Ash Street in Scranton. Activities will begin at 8:00 a.m. and will continue into the afternoon.
“This is the eighth consecutive year we’ve partnered with the Club to sponsor the Back-to-School Health Fair. During that time, more than 2,200 youngsters have received important health screenings and prevention education as they get ready to go back to the classroom,” explains Cynthia A. Yevich, Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania’s senior director of corporate affairs.
Youth members from the Club’s central unit, Park It sites and Luzerne County Club extensions will receive free health screenings administered by area health care professionals. The youngsters will also receive a variety of safety, health and personal information they and their parents/guardians can use as reference material.
According to Club Executive Director Tricia DiBiasi Thomas, “We at the Club are so appreciative that several agencies, physicians and other health care professionals have volunteered their time and services to help our Club members prepare for the school year.
We are also proud to once again partner with Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania and are grateful for their continued commitment to the well-being of the children we serve. Blue Cross has collaborated with us many times over the years, and their sponsorship of this event is another example of their concern for our children and community.”
Healthcare professionals and organizations from all over Lackawanna and Luzerne Counties will volunteer their time to educate and safeguard Club members in preparation for the back-to-school season. Provider participants include: Northeast Eye Institute, Moses Taylor Hospital, Advanced Imaging Specialists, Dr. Frank Padula, Women’s Resource Center and Loving Care
Agency/Links to Care. Check-ups include: eye, height, weight, blood pressure, dental and overall wellness.
An on-site picnic will be conducted for the children at the conclusion of the Health Fair. For further information, contact the Club at (570) 342-8709.
The health fair is free for children and open to the public.
