Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania Fourth Annual “Wellness in Action with Kids” Health Fair
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeastern Pennsylvania have once again teamed up with our sponsor, Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania to provide our members with our Fourth Annual “Wellness in Action” Back-to-School Health Fair, which was held on Wednesday,
August 6th, 2008 at our Central City Club in Scranton.
The purpose of this event is to provide free health screenings to all of our members throughout Lackawanna and Luzerne Counties. In addition to the screenings, the children attending received a variety of safety, health and personal information that they and their parents could use as reference materials. Many local health care professionals volunteered their time and talents to make the health fair a success. This year’s participants included: Ameri Health Mercy, CEO, Cancer Institute, Childhood Lead Prevention, Dr. Dempsey, Judy Gatelli, Dr. Kenneth Mayers, Moses Taylor Hospital’s Nurse Volunteers, Northeastern Eye Institute, Pennsylvania Department of Health, Pennsylvania State Treasury Department and the Scranton Chapter of the American Red Cross. The Club could not host the event without the commitment from these fine community health care providers.
Following the health fair, the children were treated to a picnic lunch and special recreational activities. Every child that attended received a new lunch bag and new school supplies. All activities for the day were made possible by a large contingent of employee volunteers from Blue Cross. This year’s volunteers included:
Sharon Armstrong, Eleanor Bangs, Renee Bomboy, Kimberly Chapin-Marsico,
Kim DeSanto, Katheen Fanucci, Michael Graham, Kelli Gronka, Sheila King,
Bob Konopke, Mary Ann Lanunziata, Janis Lombardi, Susanne Luchetti,
Diane Robinson, Kelly Robinson, Mary Swim, Melanie Walsh, Brenda Watkins,
Sharon Yale and Lorraine Zbierski.
The Boys & Girls Clubs is grateful to Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania for their continued commitment to the health and well-being of our community’s children.
